Where to stay in Sumba: every kind of hotel on the island, listed fairly
About 1,500 rooms for an island twice the size of Bali. Here they are, in alphabetical order.

Sumba is still one of the least developed islands in Indonesia for tourism. According to the statistics office of East Nusa Tenggara (BPS), in 2024 the whole island had about 60 places to stay and roughly 1,460 rooms. For comparison, the area around Labuan Bajo alone had more than twice that.
Where to base yourself
- Tambolaka (north-west): next to the main airport, with the island's larger city hotels.
- Southwest coast (Kodi, Wanokaka, Lamboya): the famous resorts, empty beaches and the Pasola fields.
- Waingapu (east): the capital of East Sumba, close to the savannas and waterfalls.
