Sumba is changing, but slowly. Here is what is open, what is being built and what is not happening.

Recently opened

  • Myze Hotel Waingapu (Artotel Group) opened in November 2025 with about 127 rooms and an event hall. It is now the largest hotel on the island.
  • Sima Sumba Hotel (Swiss-Belhotel) opened in Tambolaka in 2023 with about 102 rooms.
  • Cap Karoso opened in Kodi in 2023 with about 60 rooms and villas.

Under construction

  • NIHI Sumba is adding villas, with works expected to continue into 2027.
  • ARYA Sumba, about 19 villas, is expected around 2027.
  • Eco Beach City, the publisher of this site, is building a beachfront community for sport, work and wellbeing, next to the villas it already operates.

What is not happening

There is no announced project with more than 100 new rooms in the pipeline, and none of the big international chains has a hotel on the island yet. Sumba is also not one of Indonesia's special economic zones.
